• importing eps files

    Hi
i’m working on a couple of jobs at the minute where i have needed to import company logos (downloaded from the web). they came in .eps format. the problem is when i import them into my sign software ( gerber advantage) it wont cut them. i can edit them & when i select output they appear in the the cut window. i hit cut and the plotter starts but only cuts the weed border (?) i have also imported them to corel then exported as .ai file but the same thing happens any ideas ?

    thx

Could you post an example in the file swapping forum? This way some members here would be able to open it and throw some light on the problem 😀

I generally open the files from that site in Illustrator and get rid of unnecessary data that is usually there, such as the clear frame panel that is always evident. From that point I start work in other programs. Try that as an alternative route, I am sure it will work….

Check to see if the file that you are importing doesnt have print only attributes assigned to the vectors. The line sshould appear as black only, if they are red or green that means that the vectors have a print fill assigned to them. set the vectors to cut only and that should clear up the problem. Its been a while since I worked with advantage, but this problem arises in newer versions of the Gerber software

Could you maybe try reducing the size of the file in Corel?
I have GA 6.2 and it sucks out loud at both importing & exporting.
I know that the image must be black & white to import into GA.
    (at least on my version)

I imported into Corel Exported as eps to Signlab and it cut no problem. There are a lot of cut lines through the letters etc that you need to sort out.

    Hi

The problem is Gerber advantage thinks they are printable items and not set for cut, the way I got around it on Gerber advantage was to use the outline tool to draw around the logo (about 0.1 mm) then delete original logo and you will be able to cut from out line.

On Omega composer you also get this problem but if you select the logo and right click on it – then select fill and stroke from pop up menu – and set them both to none this will turn it in to a cutting item instead of a printing item

Or use the “raster” to vector” command,
    dunno which heading it’s under.
But again it only works for me with B&W.

Sitting at a lap top at the moment with Omega 1.56 which runs an Edge II and plotter.
Imported the EPS ‘rotary’ file in, selected the gear wheel part of the logo, went into the arrange menu and put ‘cuts on’. Then from file menu output selected. From the plotting program you can then go to the view menu and select view cut. This shows the gear wheel, which I assume is what will will be cut. Haven’t got a plotter to test this out on at home, but will try this out when back in the office and let you know, although I’m sure we’ve used eps files from brandsoftheworld before.

The thing that I find with all these files from ai or web sites is that they need to be welded in signlab to stop extra cuts It seems to see the path as an extra cut line inside and out.

not much help to you I know just thought I would mention it anyway.

    Goop.

another thing refereing to DaveBruce comment.. if you export corel and import GA or similar and your text has a line going through it then one way is to

From Corel, “Covert the Curves” and the “Break Appart”, as long as there is two shapes then its fine. Export AI then import into sign package.. no issues then
