• importing bitmaps

Posted by Ryan Fairweather on December 1, 2006 at 1:21 pm

    Hi

I’m getting an error message when trying to import an eps file that contains bitmap images (photos). The file contains about 20 photos and therefore lots of nodes – could this be causing the problem? It exports normally but comes up as an error when trying to import again. Can anyone help as I need to import the file as an eps to make changes on it? Thanks!

‘an error occurred whilst importing the file….the file cannot be opened.’

I am not teaching you to suck eggs but are you using the PS, PRS, EPS dropdown to import?

Chris think its to do with the file size, nearly 2GB!!! 😮

Trying to find a way of compressing the file.

If you are trying to import it as a vector EPS – the bitmaps will cause a ‘does not compute..error..error’ as it’s no longer a vector file.

Signlab etc. totally freaks out if you try it! Just tried this…see if it’ll import as an EPS but ‘CONVERT TO BITMAP’.

If you have access to the original program it was created in then you’re in with a shout.

Photoshop should be able to import the whole file, but will parse/render it as a bitmap meaning you’ve lose all the vector info & embedded test.

Just out of interest, what program were you using?

I’m having exactly the same problem with X3. A smallish file including 1 bitmap, exported to EPS will not import again. Weird. Same error message as well.

I believe George is correct. In CorelDraw, you need to indicate the file type by making a selection within the drop-list. Otherwise, CorelDraw will not necessarily use the import filter that you would have expected.

Yeah but X3 doesn’t have the option of PS or EPS, just EPS.

The problem as I have experienced is that an EPS export will not import again using the same filter that was used to export it.

On previous versions, what you say is correct.

    .

Andy, my X3 has ‘EPS, PS, PRN – PostScript’ as an import option

I’ve just imported a colour photo that I’d exported in eps to my RIP, and it reimported fine as best I can see.
