Let’s hope he’s not one of those
"Can I see it in Green?"
"Can you try that in a different font?"
"Can you print me out a sketch to show my wife?"
"You can’t be serious, you want $100 for that sign?"
type clients. That would be hilarious to catch on film.
Congrats Steve and enjoy, remember to stand up straight and not say "umm" a lot, or stare at the camera.
    Love….Jill

I have several A4 designs printed (all with the company name and number on lol), ready for him to see, and the designs will be up on screen too so he can change the colour etc if he needs to, its not live so can do several takes …. phew.

They’ll have to do a lot of fading.
the shop sign, the T shirts the hoodie I’m wearing, the mug I strategically placed, the sign inside, the edge lit in the window, the bar runner on the table and the swing sign outside LOL
if they blur all those theres going to be no programme.

    No mate
    just finished now.
Its going to be screened in January, on BBC1 I printed out like 12 designs, some good some bad for illustration IE what can be seen from a distance, colour clashes etc, in the end nobody looked at those, and we ended up doing it on screen in real time.

    Picture this
mint/apple green main sign, (Ali composite), with black border, with no rounded edges
Ill have to find a powder coater to do this as probably not going to get a vinyl to suit, its a very odd colour
utopia bold text with a small contour to make the letters bolder.
    all black text
    🙂

Nice one Steve, we were in a BBC programme about 12 yrs ago http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=3zkclvikdg0 and I got an email from a friend in Autrailia about 3mts ago saying he’d just been watching it! It did generate a lot of work though. Word of advice….don’t do these things a few weeks after a charity headshave! 😀 😀

    Nice one Harry.

I was on telly once. It was about 9 or 10 years ago. A butcher in B’oness won the "pie maker of the year" award and he contacted me to put signs on his window to announce the fact to all his customers. While I was there fitting the lettering a TV news crew turned up to interview him and they filmed him while I was in the background fitting the lettering.

It was on the Scottish news that evening and even though I was only visible for all of about 5 seconds in the short news item, I was amazed at the number of customers of mine who saw it and recognised me.

I’ve got it on video somewhere 😳

Will be watching out for that one in January Steve
No doubt you’ll keep us informed as to when it will be shown as I can no longer afford to keep the tv on 24/7 with the price of electricity

Hey Harry that was a great video

    I was on tv once
I was picking up a truck engine in my flat back truck at Bedford Motors in Luton/Dunstable and was met by an crowd of strikers waving their fists and hurling abuse, telling me to go away! Then they told me to ‘hang on a minute’
Yes! The TV crews wanted to get a shot on camera so we did it all again

    I couldn’t stop laughing though
I was on the local news the next day

    Fame at last

I think its on january sometime, its a prime time show on BBC1 called home to hotel I think,Ill ask saturday when I measure up,
(yes it was done in this order)

You may see my shock/horror at the colour change from white dibond with rounded corners, expensive fonts, light blue text, and a small black contour to emphasise the letters,to…..

Mint/apple green flood or powder coat. black vinyl border, square corners and utopia black (not a bad font but wasted here)

Customer was happy and that’s all I care about,
but to have to do that on national prime time TV was painful.

Re do a sign I spent a whole day doing about 12 designs for, then to have to spend 5 minutes doing something totally different was quite painful.

I had designed fora 3000mm x 800mm high sign that was to be
"visible from across the river" they asked how much flood coating would be I said £100 for that size, ok they said then asked what size, I pointed to it on my wall all ready to be written up.

"Oh, I wanted one about 6 feet across"
(but visible from 200 yards away by the way)
So forgive me when you see me none of it was my fault, the lady wanted a modern/contemporary looking sign and basically designed it herself with me colouring stuff in and typing LOL
so no hate mail when its shown please

We were paid 300 sterling (for a morning’s filming) and I think it was 12 years ago, we also had to sign waivers to rights in a shedload of countries.

All i signed was a consent to film me form, no payment, and after they see the bloody sign I’m not expecting any "seen you on TV trade" either LOL
well maybe but its not what I would have made

The difference was probably that it was a private company selling their production to the BBC…….know what you mean about ‘what you would have made Steve……my painting was crap back then 😀 😀 some of it is cringeworthy 😳 😳
