OK… I’ll try and explain this as simply as I can.

    I have 6 computers… 4 on a network, and 2 stand alone.

The 2 stand alone units are the problem.

All machines have access to the internet, and all but 1 machine have email ability.

The problem is this: For the last week, the 2 stand alone units have been slow to hook onto the internet, and for the last 3 days, neither can log into my website BUT they have no problem logging into ANY other website.

However, 2 days ago, 1 of the stand alone units started coming up with "unable to comunicate with your POP account", and is unable to access any emails, but the second stand alone PC, although unable to log into my website, does still get emails.

I’ve checked for virus and spyware with reputable licensed software.

I don’t know where else to look.

I have restored the stand alone PC that will not read emails or my website, back to a restore point of 14 days ago when all was working well.

I’m at a total loss. I’ve googled the error codes, error messages etc, and although I get heaps of suggestions, its all pretty vague.

It is a long shot, but before I call an IT guy, does anyone have any suggestions?

I’m of the opinion I have a nasty spyware/adaware program hiding somewhere, but thats just a hunch.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Cheers

standalone? does this mean dialup if they are not on the network.

consider putting them on the network shane, problem solved if you get my drift and get a wireless router to serve to them all with wireless cards if you cant do cable routing.

also firewall nasty software like norton/mcafee can put stupid blocks on POP3 access etc. Would you believe that McAfee Personal Firewall blocked a network version of Sage!

So yes, its dialup or spyware knocking out the internet connections.

Thanks Dave, they are all on adsl. I’m running Zone alarm on some, and window firewall on one of them on the network.

The 2 stand alone are at different locations to the office, so the network option is not something I can do.

Interstingly, the stand alone that could not get my website but could receive emails, can now see my website, but will not receive emails now….

I’m wondering if it may be my ISP now, having trouble at the server end…

Thanks for your reply mate. I’m running late for work so I’ll check this out tonight..

    Cheers
