    Hi

New to making signs, Just learning how to use adobe illustrator,

Getting there but having some trouble with drop shadows on text, When i apply the drop shadow to the text i get 2 full letter outline paths offset.

Is it possible to create a outline path for the the drop shadow alone, so i can separate the shadow from the letters or is offsetting letters over letters the only way i can get drop shadow using Adobe.

    any advice appreciated

    Hi Ja

You’d get on better starting out introducing yourself in the ‘say hello" forum.

There are some very good Illustrator tutorials on the web and they will probably explain better than I could 😀

Cuttable drop shadows are an easy operation in Illustrator.

You need to learn how to use the Pathfinder commands.

    Hi Ja Smith,

There are a few ways of doing it.
I often use the following method : create your text – create outlines – effect – stylize – drop shadow – In the selection box make sure 100% is selected, 0 blur, normal mode and whatever you want the offset to be.
You can get a preview, once your happy go to the object menu on top of page and expand appearance, then pathfinder and merge.
This is just one of the many ways, this way is good is handy for specific distance etc.
    Hope it helps,

    Lorr
