  • Illuminated panel and graphic with different colour edges

Posted by Warren Beard on March 1, 2011 at 9:08 pm

Title says a lot :lol1: This customer really wants what he wants and he wants a clear acrylic panel with rear white illumination for the graphic which is smaller than the panel and then a blue edge illumination.

Would translucent vinyl around the edge look any good or do you know of a solution I could look in to?

    similar to pic attached

    cheers

    Warren

Warren do you mean edge as in edge of panel or like a frame of blue around the image?

I think these are specialist panels Warren…..the LED light is basically a metalic strip which illuminates the panel…..I’m not sure but in this case they might just have used blue edge acrylic to get the effect

I believe people like Fairfields do them or something similar

they want the light to be white as they don’t want their graphic to turn blue but they do want the edges to be blue.

either white led’s in the middle with blue led’s around the edge (but who makes that?) Fairfields are white only.

or white led’s with a vinyl solution to create a blue lit edge.

it can be done for sure… white led modules should be facing to the inside of the panel and blue facing towards the edges… i guess the answer may be in led acrylic panels (white light) smaller than the face panel with graphics with blue led strip mounted on the edges… just the idea but there may be ready made solution for this…

Warren I’m inclined to agree with Glenn.
I think they may be using acrylic which is basically clear but shows a blue edge, also available with a green edge.

The white light behind is emphasizing the edge colour.

I can’t remember exactly what type of acrylic it is as my samples are in the office.

    I think it’s cast acrylic.

also possible: led panel (like fairfields) with transparent blue filter at the back, worth to try if it works

that’s where my customer got the picture from, I think the blue effect is coming from the blue print, his print is black with white detail and wants it to stay white but have blue edges and that’s what is stumping me.

maybe worth a call to see if they have the blue edge acrylic as mentioned as an alternative.

    cheers

to me it looks like a mixture of blue and white leds… not built one of these before but is interesting…

the silver screen print is a technique to block light (bus wrap material 😉 )
so that is blocking any light scatter that your eyes might pick up and making the A4 sheet look brighter.

looks like just a load of LEDs recessed into the back, so where the wires go?

the other LED u can get is the Stud-LED where the LED is in the Stud

the edges will glow with the colours applied… you can get tinted acrylic but i think this is mixed leds
