Sometimes, I have days like today. Everything works, works well, and works the first time. All clients show up 10 minutes AFTER I finished their jobs. And Lady Luck cracked a wrinkle in my direction…

Let me start my story way back. About 17 years ago I was given an EXTREMELY rare book, "Small Arms Shooting and Ballistics" by the mother of my girlfriend. This particular book is the Holy Grail of ballistics, and, as I said, very rare. I’ve had to turn down many offers by people-including my dad- wanting to buy it, no matter what the cost. (I never sold – it’s like selling your Bible). Tomorrow is my Dad’s birthday. Today a bloke walks into the office to make a registration number for his sail yaught. Turns out to be Mr. W.A. Hundt, author of the book!! I asked him if he had any books left, and, yes, I can get a hardcover for $300. I told him it would make a nice birthday gift for my dad, who turns 67 tomorrow. "No problem, I’m going to Windhoek tomorrow, (400 km away)I can autograph AND deliver the book to your father" And he gave me a Computer programme he wrote to calculate all the ballistics published in the book!! Oh, and he said he’s got a container load of firearms related books, wich his wife does’nt want on the boat. ( including most books published on this subject the last 150 years or so) Since nobody in his family has any interist in this, he promptly donated the lot to me!! I’m sort of seriously chuffed.

Nice one Gert. I’m envious. I could spend a lot of time reading those books.

Mr. Hundt came by this morning to collect his money and to give me the opportunity to write a message for dad in the fly-page. Leather bound, gold leaf lettered! I’m jealous! Gave me a consolidation prize in the form of a new soft-cover version. And he asked me to give him a write-up on the new edition of the book. And enquired if I would be interested in going into partnership with him to start an "adventure shooting range", catering for the tourist trade, as well as doing training for ordinary folk who bought firearms for self-defence, and never fired them. Sounds good to me, spending my week-ends at the shooting range, and getting paid for it!
