I need a supplier for colour coded screws please?
Posted by Matt Hards on January 14, 2008 at 12:20 pmI need a supplier for colour coded screws, i know ashby do them, but seem quite pricey. Its for fitting a load of white dibond fascias, not signwritten, just to clean up a market exterior. Dont want to go the "snap cap" route on this one.
cheers,
matt

If your fitting onto timber, how about using white topped nails available through most double glazing companies. They use then when they clad soffitts, barge boards etc. AND THEY ARE CHEAP 😀

The ones Ashby do are called Polytop screws try and Google you may get another supplier if your just after white.

I actually think that these Covercaps look better than the Ashby Polytops.

Do a search for Cover Caps.
They are the pukka ones with the separate washer and the cap really snaps in to place.
They are the same size as the Polyhead screws but neater looking IMO.
The ones that Peter mention are like the MFI ones and fall out if you just look at them. 😕The Poly head nails are nice but on a fascia can cause buckling if you don’t give a good oversize hole or if you knock them in too far so as to pinch the panel against the backing.

found some on here, polytops, ordered them, now thinking is 10mm guage x 24mm length gonna be ok for fixing 3mm dibond. Should be ok shouldnt it, if i predrill the holes first. lol, oops, oh well, see what they like whenn they arrive.
I have bookmarked all your other suggestions, as they all have different solutions. the cap covers look very nice, i like the look of them, its only as customer has kind of specified polytops.

Matt, they are the same as the Ashby ones, for which I recently paid 13p each for 50.
They are 16p each from fixdirect. -
maybe ill check my invoice again then, thought ashby ones were a lot more than that, ill have to check, oh well these are on there way for now, they’ll get me through this job, thats the main thing. Some interesting products on those other sites though ! For future reference.
Peter… do you glue those caps on, as i have had them on indoor office furniture before and they fall off, just wondered if you stick them with anything.

I have never used them but seen them in the screwfix catalogue, I have some panels to fix direct to a wall tomorrow, so I bought some, the seem to be ok if you have the correct screws, I will let you know how I go on, I usually use the plastic knock in fixings from cherwell though but have run out.

you can buy in bulk from plastic parts for the caps….never seen the point in using the painted coloured screws…the paint comes off when you screw them into whater you are using 😕
