  • I need a sign fitted to a pole then put in the ground?

    Hi guys

I’ve not done one of these before but I’ve just had an enquiry for a white A3 sign with black text that needs to be fitted to a metal post then put into the ground.

I had a sample thing from Ashby a while back which is a solid plate with a rail riveted to the back and U shape clip that goes round the post and bolts to the rail, although this looks the business, i’ve heard horror stories about Ashby and I would like a price asap.

Can anyone recommend a supplier or how i can make one of these maybe with dibond?

Hi Daniel, I totally understand where you are coming from with Ashby, great products, crap service!!! We use William Smith for all our post and panel signs, very good all round service. A couple of weeks ago we wanted to manufacture some signs using dibond, we purchased the rails and clips from William Smith also. The signs look great!!!!

    Give them a phone on 01833 690305

While I have had a rant in the past about Ashby when one job went wrong, on the whole I find they give good service. As for fast quotes, for such a simple sign such as you describe you can get an instant quote online for that.
If you ring up you will usually be emailed the quote within the hour.
Something more complicated may take longer.
Compared to William Smith Ashby consistently come out considerably cheaper whenever i have had a like for like quote.
I wouldn’t just discount them because of a few stories on here, have you even called them ?

I have to agree with Stuart. They simply wouldn’t survive if they were all bad.

That said I would try blackburn metals too.

Just had one delivered today …. 3m post with 400 x 300 Ali panel -£40

    Cheers

Thanks guys, I’ll give both a call in the morning, I just remember asking ashby for a sample and it took 3 attempts of asking them until I finally got it and then the stories I read about quotes taking too long, just thought I’d skip all that and find another supplier elsewhere, If you guys have had a good service from them I’ll give them a call in the morning and see how I get on.

    Thanks

My opinion of Ashbys is that the bulk of staff who handle menu driven quotes off their PC’s haven’t got a clue and probably never got beyond a lego kit.
As for products, very good and well priced.

Just check and double check that what they quote for is actually what you asked for.

Or speak with Blackburns who sell the channel/clips/posts, then VHB and rivet the channel to the back of your sign.

I can only go on my own experiences with Ashby. My last order which was a Alu double sided sign tray, was late by 2 days anfter being assured it would arrive on a certain day (otherwise i would have orederd it from someone else) when it arrived 3 days late, the panel had a dent in it. But i know these things happen from time to time. I phoned to tell them, told them the panel was damaged and took me another couple of days to even speak to someone that could even give me any feedback on when a new one could be sent out. Everytime i phoned (which was twice a day) someone was going to phone me back. A day or 2 after i ordered it, the horror stories about Ashby popped up on here. Will not be using them again in a hurry, thats all
