  • I’m OK…… now….

Posted by Shane Drew on June 12, 2011 at 6:40 am

Just got back from the emergency hospital. Slipped with my knife and stabbed myself in the stomach. Blood everywhere, unable to stem the blood flow for a while. The wife raced me to the hospital. The DR’s were convinced I’d been in a gang fight. Eventually convinced them it was my own stupid fault.

My son fainted, and my wife gave me a lecture. She is a workplace health and safety officer and felt it was her duty to ‘give me an ear full’

All is good though. Amazing what they can do with super glue now days….

OMG Shane haven’t you seen enough of hospitals for this year?ย

Please sayย it was a nice clean new blade so much less chance of any nasty infection and thankfully we all know scalpel cuts heal pretty quickly.

I remember stabbing my leg within weeks of starting at Smiths I’d just turned 16 and I needed a couple of stitches, the Doc’s gave my boss a real mouthful for letting me "play" with scalpels at work.

I would often forget and stick my knife in my back pocket to so I was very happy when we got the retractable blade ones……I think after this you need to get some too ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks friends, yeah bit sore now but I’ll survive.

It was a brand new blade, only went in about 12 – 15mm. Thankfully I’m more on the tubby side so I had plenty of ‘chubbyness’ to protect any vital organs tho. Being new it was a clean cut and the Dr was fairly pleased with the clean incision.

My 1st aid kit is sadly lacking tho. Never thought I’d need it in truth. Good idea to encourage you all to check yours out too I guess.

My son will take a while to recover. Still squeemish but a lesson well learned… for both of us. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I’m sorry but the line about the Dr being pleased with the incision made me laugh out loud.
At least you maintained your sense of humor even if your dignity took a stab.
Geez, man, you better be more careful!
I have absolutely no room to talk, though.
Glad it came out OK but next time I’m sure (and there will be a next time, you know it) that your first aid kit will be up to snuff.
I’m also sure that your boy will have a respect for knives too, so that’s another sort of good thing that came from this.
    Love….Jill

Glad to hear your on the mend Shane and thanks for the reminder. My first aid kit needs topping up again. Unlike yours mine gets loads of use, surprised the hinges still work to be honest.

Haven’t got a clue how I manage it but I always seem to be in the wars one way or another. Don’t normally realise either until I start dripping blood all over what ever I’m working on :lol1: :lol1: Think the pain killers may have something to do with that though.

Mind you (touch wood) I haven’t done anything as serious as your injury for quite a long time now, think the last one was when I sliced the end of my finger off with the router :lol1: ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Glad it wasn’t more serious Shane. Geez, those things can happen so fast. Can we assume that not having a belly could be a serious safety risk? ๐Ÿ™‚

So glad that things worked out for you Shane.

I want to know what the Dr thought your gangs name was.(Shades of Grease here)

was it "The Signies", or "The Oldies" ๐Ÿ˜€
