I went out today to buy a new digital camera……. what a perfomance. Went into Comet……. now I know why the shop is called Comet…… the sales assistants are on another planet! 😕 I had to fight my way past the staff who were gathered at the front door for a smoke, then couldn’t find anyone to assist me when I was in. Anyway, eventually this backward looking halfwit shuffled up and grunted at me . I pointed to a Nikon camera and commented that I could buy this from them online £25 cheaper, would they price match…..he shuffled off…. shuffled back and grunted ‘naw’. OK, I’ll go elsewhere where I can find someone who holds more of a command for the english language.
Went into Currys, young guy, knew his cameras offered loads of help, I decide on a Sony. Can’t talk him into a discount but do talk him into a free leather carry case. Good I thought …. oops, it’s only the display model we have left here, but our Store in Airdrie has it! Before I drive to the other store I thought, lets give Comet the benefit of the doubt and see if they have this Sony one and will sell it at the same price. Another frizzy haired eejit hops over to me and says ‘naw’ again, telling me that the won’t price match cos Currys didn’t have it in stock and their other branch was more than 10 miles away. So I left and went to Airdrie. Yes we’ve got the camera ‘naw yer no gettin a carry case’ ….. I asked why, the manager just looked and said ‘naw, I’m not giving you one’. 👿
So this hacked me off even more. I eventually go to another branch and thankfully find a sales assistant who knew about cameras, was very polite and gave me a free carry case too.

I’ve come to the conclusion that these imbeciles aren’t even smart enough to work out that they have sales targets to meet and would obviously rather have a ciggie and a chat than worry about a bit of paperwork a sale would create.

Anyway…. that’s my moan for the day. I feel better now! 😀

Shopping is so much different here.
You go into any Best Buy or Circuit City, and at least 3 people fall all over themselves trying to wait on you.
I’d rather be left alone, thanks!
Even Wal-Mart has very helpful and often knowledgeable workers.
They meet other stores’ sale prices too.
It’s hard for me, working at the hardware store,
when people call and ask if we will match Home Depot’s price.
    We just don’t.
We are a privately owned regular Mom & Pop store…you know, the kind that is getting rarer than hen’s teeth over here!
    Love…..Jill

Thanks Nik, there is a Jessops but I did eventually get the camera I was after. Truth be known …. I was buying it for John, it’s his birthday tomorrow and I’d left it to the last minute! 😳 I found it online £40 cheaper when I got home! But I needed to buy it today. So it’s my own fault 🙁

John has an Olypmus OM1n fully manual SLR, takes fab pics but needless to say he doesn’t use it! Shame, it’s a nice old camera.
I bought a 7.2 mega pixel Sony, very compact and the quality should be good! Just another gadget for gadget man….. 🙂

I just buy 90% of my gadgets at http://www.ebuyer.com – good customer reviews, and decent pricing. – Have bought a number of dig. cams. from there including 2 for work & my own S7000.

Give them a try next time you’re after anything – at least you won’t have muppets NOT serving you!

Well after 6 years of buying PC bits from them, (this is the site where most independant PC shop get their stock!), they are reliable & fast. I’ve returned 2 faulty memory modules – no quibbles or customer returns. This is a MAJOR site, not some back-water bargain shop. Honestly, you mention this site to most PC / IT guys & they’ll swear by it!

Yep.. all my buying goes to Ebuyer for the last 4-5 years…. until recently they were just warehouses and just had a few web developers and some backend staff.

I will never buy anything these days from PCWorld/Comet/Curry’s if I can help it. Those people is what I call the 9 to 5 employees who dont give a monkeys.

Hmmmm….. Dave, I spent 17 years working for the Group that own two of those Companies, and played a part in the setting up of one of them!

Find that comment a little offensive, as most of my working days were 5am – 9pm.

Admittedly, you get bad apples in any organisation, however, it would be very very unfair to tar them all with the same brush.

In my opinion, these places are mainly set up now for “box shifting”, which is why when I buy from them, I’ve done my homework first, and walk in knowing exactly what I want and take it away!

Yes I do shop online, however, I also use the “big boys” who I know will still be around when I need them, and are there from 9am – 8pm. Not here today, gone tomorrow!

u must be refering to my comment about 9-5 employees… honestly… you walk in a shop.. u then ask a question and then they give you a blank face or some jibberish, you often see people in business who just look at their watch waiting to go home.. they dont value their job!

Thats my comment Chris… value of their job and people who show an interesting in working. I hate it when an employee or someone who you work with doesn’t put full dedication into something they do, however a lot of their actions relate to how much money they earn from it.

Well Marcella what I would have done is asked him if I can look at the camera . then go OOPS and drop it to the floor and say excuse me its only a display so it should be fine for show off only
I would fix them up bad. they will regret the day they came to mother earth lol

i thought ebuyer was brill untill the last order wont touch them again.

Marcella a camera shop may not be the cheepest but you should speak to people that are interested in cameras and how they are used

I’ve got a better idea Marcella.

Virgin are doing flights to Orlando for £300 apiece in March so jump on one and get your camera there.

If you do plenty of shopping, say a week’s worth, you should come back with a profit and a suntan.

    As a plan, I can’t see a downside. 😀

    😀 I like that plan John!!! 😀

Well, my hubby was given his camera for his birthday today …. I seem to have made the right choice anyway, he’s well pleased with it!

Yeah, me too Marcella. I’ve been sitting here wondering if I could get away with it myself but I think the reality is that we are too busy. 🙁

And Daytona Bike Week starts this Saturday. 🙁
