Just about sums it up. πŸ˜€
Nobby Thomas (I think that’s his name) does stone carving. It’s by hand though.

    Rob,

I’ve to have them made and hold them in stock…..
would prefer a sandstone/limestone……..like the entrance to hotel or estate. [they would re-set the sign in wall/brick?]

    Cheers

Can you get a local stonemason to either hand carve them or sand blast them from a rubber sandblast template?

Ok, here is something i did in the past for a mate of mine.

He owned some concrete company and dealt with weird and wonderful creations, made from… concrete.
he was doing some large wall i think, entrance to a hotel drive way or something like that. He had to supply huge sections with the name indented/routered/milled from the stone. I contacted AXYZ asking is this possible and about a router bit for the job.
In short the answer was nop!
    What i did was…
Using 1inch thick MDF/wood cut the letters as normal using our table cnc router.
along with a template. We handed them to my customer/mate.

What he did was to create the block mould. Pour in the concrete.

The letters had all been screwed to a wooden baton. The baton long enough to bridge the box/mould for the block. Here, he simply bridged the box and pressed the letters into the face of the soft concrete.
He then left it till the concrete firmed up and then β€œwith help” took each side of the baton and began lifting. Out came the letters and the concrete was then left to dry properly with the exact impression of the letters left..

There is a liquid you must paste the letters with to prevent them sticking to the concrete.
I think i have some at work still…. most builders yards will know what it is or have it.

Be sure to do some smaller tests on drying time. We had to replace a set he left too long and got stuck.

the design is pretty intricate and although I like your concrete idea I need it to be consistant and tight…….. I’ve seen this type of thing before however not in the trade magazines!. I could router cut them in Corian, LG HiMacs etc…… but would like them in stone?

    do headstone engravers use routers?
