HP 25500 second hand – advice needed
Posted by Tim de Beir on August 21, 2013 at 8:03 amI have the opportunity of buying an second hand HP25500 for around 6.500 pounds.
I do have some questions, on the internet I read that the first generation HP latex has some problems, and was wondering what is true…
I would like to have some advice :
– what should I be aware of…
– any questions I could ask the seller
– what should have been replaced after 3 years…
– does It came with software or RIP? (seller only sells the machine)Thanks in advance,

I have the white L25500
Firstly you need two large 240volt power sockets installed.. think they are 15ampers.
You need a support package from HP, well worth it. I had two call outs so far.
Onyx RIP has the most media profiles.
If you mainly printing banners, look at Roland printers, if your mainly printing vinyl then HP, if your mainly printing fabrics the newer HP.

To go for Latex or not depends mostly on what do you want to produce and your time limit. Latex is so slow and costly when compared to Mutoh or Mimaki, else it has a very good advantage if you are in vehicle wrapping business and time is important.
As for the questions to ask the buyer, simply you have to get a good RIP with it, else nothing is really important, all parts are easily replaceable by yourself and the printer is almost trouble free.

They’re simply getting that bit older, the HP 26500 is it’s replacement and has a few advantages including better take up roll (48kg as opposed to the 26kg on the 25500), better inks including more vibrant colours and deeper blacks, and a few other various additions. Oh and it’s black instead of white, looks very good!
Nothing wrong with the HP25500 they are really good machines, I work with them daily and I have to say they are pretty much wind them up and let them do their business. When you do have a problem though, I recommend having a really good repair/call out service in place – there’s specialised firms which can help you do this for a price. Worth every penny, every engineer I have met are very knowledgeable and know their stuff.
My advice? You’re thinking of getting a latex machine but don’t want or need the latest up to date machinery? This printer will see you through a few years of daily abuse.
