  • How would you wrap a printed image and colour change?

    Posted by Warren Beard on September 4, 2012 at 6:27 pm

    Hi

    I’m going to be doing a wrap that has the back quarter of the van wrapped in a digital print with gloss lam and is slightly shaped, the rest of he van is a matt colour change.

    The question is how would you do it and why and these are the main points I’m thinking about;

    1) cut the print to shape before applying or trim on the vehicle after applying?

    2) wrap all in matt colour change first and apply digi print that has been cut to shape over the matt wrap?

    Any thought and opinions on the best way to do this.

    Cheers

    Warren

    depends where or if you want the two layer bump to show.
    is there any difficult areas that would be ok with 3 layers of vinyl.

    Can’t avoid a join so not worried about the overlap between the 2 different vinyls. It’s a transit van so will be stretched in to the recesses.

    Haven’t tried it myself but what about using knifeless tape where the 2 would overlap, the video demo I watched showed it being used for this sort of thing & that way you wouldn’t have to worry about wrapping the whole van the matt colour.
    I know it’s had some good reviews by those over the water, keep meaning to get some & try it myself :lol1:

    I could try it on the colour change after I apply the printed section because it is shaped so wouldn’t be able to put it in he right place fr the print but presume I could use it along the edge of the print to trim the join on the colour change.
