How would you describe your business?
Posted by Lorraine Clinch on July 7, 2012 at 2:15 amCan’t sleep, trying to get signs designed for the new workshop. I am just off a busy single-carriageway (50mph) and want something short and sweet.
What three words would you use to describe what you are about?
All I keep coming up with is
SIGNs
PRINT
DESIGNBut I hate to call myself a designer, but haven’t a clue what else to put in.
Any thoughts anyone?

Saying as you are a fan of the book what about
50 Shades Of Signs.
Would stop traffic! 😀

I think trying to be over creative on such an advert spot/space will do you more damage than good.
as you say, design may not be an area you feel strong, so do "not promote it".
I think a tasteful modern looking sign with minimal details is best to catch passing traffic.
sorry, as i am typing this ive just realised, WHERE is the sign situated? i have the line of thought of it being next to a busy road as an advert?
-
Hi Rob, yes, on the turning from a busy road into a village, so just want my name, arrows and maybe three words to catch the eye as cars sipped past.
-
what size are you making the sign Lorraine?
is it a free standing sign or you fitting it to a wall etc? -
Hi Rob
I know full darned well I should be sorting this out myself, if it were a customer it would have been sorted by now, but I have so much going on, plus the concerns about moving after so long etc etc, I am worrying too much I think!
Both signs, either side of the turning wil be approx. 610 x 500 or so. Could poss be a bit bigger, and probably fixed to chain-link fencing. Otherwise on posts in the ground, but fence fixings are the better option here, due to other users, and weeds etc.
😥

im guesing you mean its typical "same as us" that lots of other business’s have scattered signage about directing into estate?
fixing to fence may well be easiest, but think on it like we advise our own customers. your sign is like the face of your business.
i would possible look at a free standing post and panel sign.
your sign isnt big at all and you will need something to make it stand out. -
Apologies! 😳 😳 😀
I would say, you are the sign company, your sign should stand head and shoulders above the rest, not in height or size but in quality and visibility.
If there is a lot of signage about that is square and rectangular I would use a shaped sign of some sort. Something that is immediately different from the rest. -
quote Lorraine Clinch:Btw Harry, Karl, not much help, I’m afraid, lol!
Sorry……I’ll go back under me rock. 🙁 😉
-
Rob, if I have a free-standing sign I would guess that it will require planning permission, although I may well be able to get permission to put the signs behind the fences on each corner. I will have to give more thought. I like the shaped idea.
-
Lorraine, can you put a photo on of what the premises look like from the road?
That would give us a better idea. 😉 -
Hi Karl, it’s not letting me put up photos, maybe cos I am on the IPad, maybe Rob will shed some light!
-
Lorraine i just checked and the option of attachments in replies has been enabled but as i dont have ipad at the moment i cant see if its that thats the issue. ide not have thought so though. keep me posted… or if anyone else can check in meantime ide appreciate it.

Hi Rob, the option to ‘choose file’ is whited out on my iPad so I am unable to select it.
