  • How to support thin back-lit film?

Posted by Roger Weichert on March 7, 2008 at 3:33 am

    Hi Guys,

Just wondering what is the best way to fit back-lit film to a light box.

The HP stuff I can print is only 7 micron thick, so needs support either by sandwiching between two bits of perspex/acrylic .. or perhaps being glued to the face or rear of same.

What type of material/adhesive would you recommend?

    Thanks, Roger

Roger, You need a flex frame box, Or a conversion for the existing one, the film is tensioned using a screw or other methods

I dont know whats available your side of the world so try a google for flex face system,

But something like this is what I mean

    Thanks Peter and Jason,

They both look like excellent products. I’ll get some prices for the sign grip stuff seeing it’s local.
I can see lots of uses for all their range.

    Thanks Kev,

What you’ve suggested is sort of what I assumed was used … and will fit the bill for the job I have in mind … just a small double sided light box.
The other gear would be pretty hard to retrofit in this case.

    Thanks for all the help,

    Roger
