  • How to print fluorescent colors?

Posted by Jon Miller on February 8, 2012 at 10:15 am

    Hi gang,

Did a search but only a couple threads came up.

I have seen some decals from another company in my field which have a mix of color types in one decal. Fluorescent, chrome and white etc. One of their customers came to me as they said their contour cutting wasn’t any good.
After speaking to them they said the company had mentioned something about using foils for the chrome onto the white vinyl? and printing the fluorescent.
I’m just wondering what processes and printing methods are used for these sort of things? If anyone has any links or info on this I would love to have a read through.
It’s just annoying as I only have a cmyk printer and could do even more business now with the ability to print flo colors.

    Kind Regards,

    Jon

    Thanks Dave

Had a quick look but will look into it more when I finish work.

Seems it can only be used with a dedicated Gerber cutter? Which depending on the price could make it an unlikely option..

Are there any other machines or printing processes that can achieve similar results?

We use Gerber Edge 1 and FX, cut on either Envision or Summa cutters so you are not restricted on cutter
There are a few flo foils in range but only available for Edge 1.

We also have a Summa DC4sx, same principle as Edge, but holds 5 colours and wider material, 685mm -unfortunately no flo colours available.

Both machines are very good on metallics though not cheap

    David,

I use the fluorescent colours on the FX without any problems.
Buy the Edge1 colours, then carefully rewind the foils onto a spent FX refill – sorted!

    George

Hmm.. Might be a possibility still then as I was thinking about getting a separate summa cutter anyway
