How to make an animated .gif
This is how I do them.
Adobe Photoshop:
Have at least 2 layers on your artwork. The first layer is the unaltered photo, the second is the one that is altered. (Everyone with me so far?).
Okay, now on your toolbar in Photoshop at the very bottom is a button that says “Jump to ImageReady” when you roll over it. Click that, or hit Ctrl-shift-m. This will open up the file you are working on in ImageReady.
Now let the fun begin.
There should be a toolbar at the bottom that says “animation” among other things. (the other things are good to use for webpage banners and buttons) What you want to do is click on “duplicate current frame” on the bottom of the toolbar. Now you have two pictures. Now the first on, click on it then click on the layers pallete and “hide” the 2nd layer.
Now click on how long you want it to delay (under the picture in the “animation” pallette.) I set mine to 2 seconds.
Now do the same for the second picture.
Also make sure that it says “Forever” and not “Once” for your looping options (also on the “animatioin” pallete.)
Now click play and see what it looks like. If you like it, save it. I save it as optimized so the size isn’t too big. Save it as a .gif, upload, and enjoy! It’s a lot easier to show people how to do it rather then typing it. Please let me know if it makes sense. Best thing to do is probably just print this out and read it as you are doing the steps.
Robert, I smell a contest coming on…”Best animated avatar” 😀
