  • How’s everyone finding business at this present time??

Posted by Nicholas Gormley on June 23, 2010 at 10:08 am

Just wondering how everyone is finding it at the minute. Am kept going but wouldn’t be rushed of my feet. Anyone any good ideas of how to generate more business or make ourselves more visible to clients?? What sort of way do people market themselves??

We are manically busy at the moment and have been since the end of January.

Our main marketing is word of mouth and lots of adverts on our buildings for people to see as they drive past.

Every week is the same monday morning a bit quiet then by monday afternoon / tuesday morning all hell breaks loose, it is real fun and the time flys by.

    Regards

    Russell.

Why not read the same threads you started again as not much changed in the market place since you asked the same thing last time TBH – some good advice in them…

I’ve had the busiest 3 months in 15 years. I’ve got work that I never expected, with excellent margins.

Also 3 or 4 local signs shops have gone to the wall this month, which seems to be paying dividends for me. I think peeps are finally deciding that longevity in business is worth more than an inexperienced cheap sign company. I hope so anyway.

Cheryl and Phill, on BNI days do you get to about 3o’clock in the afternoon and feel absolutely knackered..such an early start. 🙁

I used to belong to it years ago and went for 2 years, of which 6 months I was the Director, I have to say I mostly enjoyed it and to this day most of the local business I do is through people I met or were refereed to through it.
However the pressure to give referrals was to intense I found and it wasn’t particularly cheap to belong to. Definitely more plus points than minus.

May be worth you looking into it Nicholas.

Business has been good up til couple of weeks back, where inquiries and orders have slowed considerably.

Mostly textiles, embroidery and print but we’ve have never been busier – the last 2 months have been crazy but then again, my partner & I both have full time day jobs and it’s becoming a full time evening and weekend job too!

I’m presently at FESPA in Munich until Sunday – the biggest show I’ve ever been too!

The only group I gravitated to in the recent past is SAGA 😮

    .

I went to a BNI meeting with the prospect of joining a few months back. The referral thing was what turned me off. Not the actual referring, but the way it was such a big deal in the process. It was almost a guilt thing if you didn’t have something to ‘give’ at the meeting. Expensive too. End of the day, most I’ve spoken to in BNI last a year or so then move on. I got two leads at my first meeting, but lost both quotes based on price.

You are not joking Martin…It is a commitment…been a bit of an eye opener…feels like Ive gone to school some mornings. I am fairly laid back about it and if I dont have referrals…never mind. But I do make calls to anyone there who I get on with and find I may have work for them during the week. I thought it would be nice to get to meet other local business people. and yes it is expensive ……some do better than others, and the more members there are, the better.

As discussed with Cheryl the other day (nice to see you btw) theres only one of each trade allowed in a BNI group and fortunately for me now Cheryl has joined our local group they will have to leave me alone they’ve been pestering me for ages.

I’m so busy it hurts at the moment and ive had to work weekends too which I hate but hey it wont last forever.

Glad to hear that Stephen. Still got plenty on here but not quite as hectic as the last 3 or 4 months.

    Cheers

Nicholas, stop worrying about how everyone else is doing and concentrate on your own business. Everyones location, local economics, client base etc is different. Try to find something that works for you, and remember, there’s no "quick fix" road to riches. Produce good quality, good looking signs, make a decent mark up on what you do and it will come.[/quote]
