  • How often is paint used?

Posted by Joe Wright 26 on August 21, 2013 at 1:15 pm

sorry if this question is a bit basic and sounds stupid but I’m new to this industry

I’m a student who’s just started doing a placement with a company that supply to sign makers. One of the things we supply is paint and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what signmakers actually use paint for? The reason I’m asking is because I thought signs were made with vinyl film or already coloured plastics? Is paint just for the traditional hand painted signs or is it needed for modern ones as well?

Like I say I’m new to this industry and I’m just trying to get an overview of certain things. Thanks for your help 😀

It will be a difficult one to get a definitive answer to.
I use a micture of paint and vinyl, I’m originally a brushie and it is just 2nd nature to me. I will paint substrate a lot of the time rather than floodcoat as personally I think it looks better on some type of jobs.
I have seen and know of companies who are exclusively vinyl though,

Us traditional guys will use as much as possible -But will also use a lot of bread and butter vinyl
    especially in a recession!!

    Thanks guys,

I gather that it can vary then.

So Mike, you might use paint and vinyl at the same time? i.e for the same sign?

    cheers

    Hi Joe

we use paint everyday usually powder coating but occasionally wet spraying also.

Many of our signs are painted before text or prints are applied

    hope this helps
