How much for Ink?
Posted by Paul Seamer on December 3, 2009 at 2:58 pmHi guys,
I am using Genuine Roland inks and wondering how I find out exactly (or near as) how much ink I am using and the cost. How much per meter etc.
How do I figure this out? or does anyone know roughly.
It’s on a Sp300 printing at high quality on generic vinyl

I have the same printer but never really worried me as the mark up is so great, however if you create a file full colour and send it to the rip you will see how much ink it will use, from this say 2.20cc of ink you can do the sums and work out the cost of ink per meter.

For costing purposes we use £5.00 per meter, we have a Mimaki JV33 and inks cost us £80.00 per 440 cart.
We use Wasatch RIP and this can give you a cost for every print telling you exactly how much of each colour used and the cost of it, we discovered the average cost is approx £3.00 per Meter, this is using variable drops and 720 x 720 resolution.
Hope this helps
Kind regards
Russell.

Hi Paul
I had the same problem, the roland engineer was out to checvk my machine over on Tuesday (Got a clean bill of health, I’m pleased to say!), and he got me to change the screen resolution. Now I can see the ink consumption!

It’s whatever the engineer installed when I bought the machine. Just says Roland Versaworks. I haven’t updated it as it’s not on the net and I have never had a problem.
