    ‘ello

I need to know what the minimum Amount of pixels a print must be to retain photo quality?

eg size. 4 meters wide by 3 meters high.

As I said photo quality as it will be seen close up, not sure what this would need to be as not done anything at this scale before and not sure if there is an easy way to calculate it?

    any help appreciated

    cheers

Not sure of the final pixel size but you need to be looking at around 160 – 180 dpi at final print size.

    12" away – 300dpi, 2-3 feet, bare minimum of 150 dpi – 70 dpi if over 4-5 feet

    4000mm / 25.4 = 157.5" x 150 dpi = 23622pixels wide

considering photoshop is happy handling up to 30,000 pixels in any dimension, it’s not a massive file.

    Hi Warren,
Dave is spot on (and a great way of explaining) minimum pixel per inch ‘V’ distance away but you can always go higher. I’m a graphic designer and would accept these as a minimum but a photographer would want it higher, 600 DPI plus.
