    Hey all..
Just wondering how many of you had to file a claim with Avery because of the vinyl failure last year.
I tried a search of the forums but….

So, My jobs with the faulty vinyl are finally coming around…. I already replaced the vinyl on two trucks, and I have ten more to do that I know of at this point. I’ve been calling my customers who i suspect could have had the problem. It seems to have been on jobs I did from 10/03 to 10/04…. so far.
As of now, Not one customer has returned complaining, I had to seek them out, and actually saw a few jobs on the road that were pretty rough. Most people are very understanding, but I’m freaking out.. Trying to get the bad jobs out of the public’s view. Not sure if this has hurt my rputation yet.
According to my suppliers, Avery Reps, and other contacts – I should have No problem being reimbursed for the work, Just wondering if any of you have gone through the process, and what results you’ve had.
    Thanks for any input..

    Steve,

Which Avery vinyl was that. We use Avery A6 almost exlusively. Hoping that we won’t run into the same problem. I am correct that Avery has corrected the problem?

    Thanks

I believe it was the A8 series.
(which I used all last summer)
I heard that Avery will replace the vinyl if you have proof of purchase.
But they will not reimburse you your labor of removal, etc.
Lots of Letterheads I know will never buy any Avery again!
    Myself included.

It was mostly with the A8 Black.
I also had the same problem with A8: Sapphire Blue, LT Navy, and Sunflower, and A5-7 Silver Metallic.
Never had a problem with A6, but I rarely use it.
I use cast for most everything, unless i have time to get A6 for a banner or coroplast sign.
I use A6 black and white for race cars, and never had a problem yet.
They say the problem is corrected for some time now, I hope!

    Hey Jill,
I’ve been Assured by both of my suppliers, and Avery that I will be reimbursed for time and Materials to Remove and Replace…
I have two claims to be filed today and a bunch more…
Only time will tell, but I’m staying optimistic…. The alternative would be to totally freak!
I also haven’t been using avery like i used to…. This is quite an inconvenience! 12 Jobs and counting!

    Steve,

I don’t think that this episode will harm your reputation. In fact I think that it will enhance it.

You say that no customer has complained, but they will have been dissatisfied and many may have made the decision never to use you again. By aproaching them first and rectifying the problem, and whether it is yours or Avery’s fault makes no difference to them, you have shown that you are responsible and proved that there is no downside in dealing with you again. In fact, quite the opposite as not all your competitors will stand by their product to that extent.

In my opinion, a problem is an opportunity to show how good your service is.

I agree with Johns sentiment on this. Like your self I took a proactive stance on one job that I passed and saw was not quite right. We corrected the problem and got a referral from the customer that resulted in a new customer.

Not a bad deal, some extra revenue you didn’t count on.

I agree that with your approach, your reputation won’t be hurt.

Thanks For the reassurance guys… I’m thinking on the same lines, but it’s nice to hear from my peers.
I’m doing one of the trucks now…. This is the second, only ten more to go!
Forgot how much I dislike removing Vinyl….. :banghead:

It shouldn’t hurt you rep as you’re approaching the customers.

Let’s face it, most competent people can apply vinyl but how many of them will back it up with correcting problems after taking the money?
That’s how you can separate your self from the quick money makers.

this is good to hear mate. not a good thing to happen to anyone… pain in the back-side.
correct me if i am wrong though, but did i not read on letterheads a few months back that Avery were replacing the faulty materials, but NOT reimbursing for stripping the bad vinyl or refitting?

    Rob,
My supplier is telling me that I’ll paid – I haven’t actually submitted a claim and recieved payment yet. I’ll be submitting two claims in the next day or so, and the rest within a few weeks. I’ll be sure to let you know how i make out with it. That’s pretty much why i started the thread… to see if anyone else has gone through it.

    cheers mate!

    Rob,

Jill mentioned the same, that was his reply to her.

Apparently they said they would reimburse for the strip and fit as well.

Nevermind, looks like Steve posted ahead of me.

    Always one step ahead Steve.

whatever happens, i really dont think they should bow out on this one. too many folk across the world being stung with this bad batch situation, to worsen things and not compensate. avery are a big and very reliable firm, im sure things will be sorted in the end. if not, their name will seriously be blackened i think.
not trying to stir things anymore for them here, but was there a recent problem with the easy apply? i dont think here in the uk but in the states?

Believe me, I’m hoping for the best and Giving avery the benefit of the doubt. I’ve been handling this in a professional manner and expect the same from avery. If i come up short changed, I’ll be fair and patient, but persistant.

You’re right Rob, They are a Large company and have the resources to remedy this. I’ll keep you all posted.

I don’t use the A8 (avery800 here) but does the A8 have an aqueous (waterbased) acrylic adhesive or is it solvent based?

    Just curious
