I’ve always used a Hair Drier to gently warm up vinyl after applying it but this weekend bought a new Bosch heat gun/paint stripper!

Over the last couple of years despite my best efforts I’ve wavered between no bubbles at all and bubbles that appear from nowhere (don’t ask me how, I really haven’t a clue 😳 )

So this weekend I messed around sticking some vinyl to bits of my work bench and blasting it with the Bosch! The extra heat enabled me to get rid of all but the tiniest marks and I’d made a special effort to bodge it on first!

I just wondered what your thoughts were regarding ‘excessive’ heat particularly on vehicles before letting loose on the local car dealers fleet of courtesy cars? (hot)

    Hi Martin.
I just read that heat can aid in the elimination/prevention of bubbles
because it supposedly speeds up the outgassing process
    on vehicle finishes.
I just use a hair dryer because I feel that a heat gun is TOO hot.
If you don’t work quickly enuff, you can actually melt vynull.
I get bubbles wet…dry…and even a few days later. I hate ’em.
Heat does help, especially when working around rivets.
Whatever you do….DON’T use the gun as a hair dryer by mistake!
    Love…Jill 😮

A heat gun with variable dial is the best bet. As you can set them to a sensible temp to work with vinyl. I bought a spare one last year that only had two settings hot or really hot. It now resides here purely for use as a cigarette lighter.
