12 is fine, much better when it has SP1 applied
The new version has just come out… Corel Draw X3.. so I would have a look at that
Although a few comments of installing the trial version has been 50/50

Either V12 or X3 will have plenty of new stuff over V9. X3 has got a better trace option, node reduction is enhanced plus plenty more, X3 has updated import and export filters and this includes pdf, was there anything specific you wanted know?

mostly if they had modified areas such as auto trace etc..which quite franky on Corel 9 is useless.

Start of the new year etc…always a good time to think about updating.

I have found version 9 to be getting rapidly outdated.

i have tinkered with Corel Trace 11 & 12, quite useful. Not sure about autotrace, not even sure if it is there still.

Corel Trace is not a separate application in X3 but is integrated and called Power Trace (select bitmap – right click – left click trace bitmap), Auto trace is gone. Power Trace is is more accurate than Corel Trace (I recommend clip art setting) and good for colour. For those who still want Corel Trace it is still available from the Application Launcher, this assumes it has been installed from a previous version. I would add that Power Trace does NOT have options like Wood cut and Centreline these may or maynot be added in other options later.

the only real reason I upgrade Corel version is so I can import Illustrator/PDF files and handle new versions.

You will find Corel 11 &12 almost identical.

I f you have any previous version of Draw I would wait until middle February when the boxed X3 is widely available and then look up the upgrade price at Amazon or Insight, it may suit your pocket better.

Ryan- I use 12, and I was amazed at how much better it is than 9. Since x3 is in the works, you might also find the price of 12 dropping. Do make sure you have enough memory and drive space on your system.

I am also thinking of buying Corel 12, and reckoned the price would drop once this X3 version appeared? Would be very grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction where I could purchase the software on a reasonable deal – ‘cos put bluntly I’m a bit skint! Thanks in advance.

Ryan, that sounds good. I also saw similar deals on Amazon? By the way does anyone know what is the best PC system to run the programme without causing upset? I currently use XP Pro, have 512 meg of ram (which I think is a bit light) and I think my processor is Pentium 2 though I would need to check? Thanks in advance.

Make sure you get your XP pro patched with the latest service pack from MS. You should be fine with 512Mb – yes it would be faster with 1GB, but no problems to report -one of mine is using xp home with 512 and I just did a 24″x72″ full color banner of a french street scene that i printed on the DC3, and though it took a while to render at 300DPI it didn’t choke. The only thing I don’t like about CD12 is the Word perfect that comes with it – always locks up my invoice printer. I haven’t taken the time to figure out why – I just use MS Word instead
    Best,

Hello Steve, thanks for the advice. My PC is returning to its maker this weekend where I shall ask that latest service packs are all upgraded. I have to admit that I am very lazy when it comes to that, I go to the Microsoft site and go cold when I see the list and download time (still on dial up – broadband is yet to make it to my rural corner of England)!

Probably going to have the ram doubled to 1gb, may also have a more up to date processor fitted, depending on the overall cost. Then I’ll get myself a copy of Corel 12.

By the way Steve, have to say that the photo makes you look like the CEO of a big corp, do you work for the ‘Big Blue Machine’?

    Cheers, Spooky 😉
