Sorry if this has been asked a million times, but how do you turn a line into a cutpath from Corel. It’s for the Troop RIP

We don’t have Corel here, it’s just to let a customer know so that they can create PDFs with cutpaths in.

    Thanks
    Mike

Try Troop Help – Here is an extract from their helpfile

The following tech note will walk you through creating a CutPath to use with Wasatch SoftRIP from Corel Draw 9, 10 and 11.
Click on Tools and select Palette Editor.
From the drop down menu select Custom Spot Color (Corel Draw 9 users will find this option under User Defined Inks).

On the Palette Editor window, click on Add Color to create a new Spot Color.
When the Select Color window opens, click on the Mixers tab.

Select any color you want from the color wheel.
Click on Add to Palette, then click on Close.

For users of Corel 9 or 10
Change the Name of the Selected Palette Color to CutPath, click on OK to save the settings. For SoftRIP to recognize the Cutting Path, the name must be CutPath, spelled exactly as it appears.
To apply the CutPath to your artwork, click on the Outline Pen.

Select the CutPath Spot Color, and width should be set to Hairline.
When finished, save or print your artwork to create a .ps, .eps, or .prn file.

    ——————————————————————————–

    For users of Corel 11
Make sure your image is selected by using the selection tool.

From the Outline Tool menu, choose Outline Pen Dialog.

    Select Hairline for your width.

Next, select other from the color menu.

From the palette tab, choose CutPath and click ok.

Click ok again, and your image should be outlined with the CutPath spot color.

When finished, save or print your your artwork to create a.ps, .eps, or .prn file.

Follow Phils instructions and the cut path will remain as a cut path in a PDF file when created in Corel. We do all of our print/cutting as PDFs in versaworks as colours are more vibrant than EPS files.

    Chris,
I’m pretty sure you can’t cut from PDF, it has to be EPS to process the cutpath.
    Peter, Troop is rebadged Wasatch.

yes you can have cut paths embedded into a pdf file. We use Wasatch Rip(TROOP v6) and when you have process cut paths enabled, the cut path is show as a line of moving dots, or as B&P call it a line of marching ants.

It doesn’t matter if its a pdf on an eps file, does the same thing..

Yes this is possible although not sure about the cut path in troop, Mines set as CutContour in Corel with the two capital c’s being critical to make it work….Like Mark said pdf colours are more vibrant than eps.

I call my contour cut line "Cutpath" in Corel, used the colour and thickness as suggested in the help for my troop. Imports fine as a pdf into troop and cuts just as normal.

Will have to try the PDF vrs EPS for colour vibrancy.

Cheers guys. Pretty much the same process as in Illustrator then.

Does the capital P matter? – I was told it does in Illy, but actually doesn’t.

wish I had found this post before (hot)

I always used the CutPath in colorip2.2 from Corel 12, but when I upgraded to X3, the cutpath wouldn’t work.

Corel 12 didn’t cut in a pdf either via colorip2.2

No one could answer why it wouldn’t work, so I’ve been doing the design in X3, saving as v12, then reopening in v12, adding the cutpath, then exporting in eps to 2.2 to RIP.

When I upgraded to Wasatch Softrip 6.3, I still couldn’t get X3 to work with a cutpath, and I’ve tried everything.

Killing time today, I stumbled over this thread.

I changed the cutpath to cutcontour in X3 and it works!! 😛 and I can now cut in a pdf file too (hot) (hot) :banghead: 👿

Thanks for everyones input here, 😉
