Not having a laminator until recently were not sure on how to price it, we have a local printer who wants us to laminate some colour work and need to give him a price. We have a 800mm wide Emseal which is ideal for the job, we have tried some samples and he’s really happy with the results.

How do you guys price trade laminating by the sq mtr? and how much?

Work out the sq metre price of your material & double it. If wrap mounts are involved add another 30% to cover costs of d/s tape & plasters for your thumbs!!!

You need to more than double it , at least 3x or 4x , there is a lot of wasteage with lamming (lead in , lead out , overwidths etc) and you take some serious risks re the graphics , mess it up and you responsible for a reprint!!!
We dont charge less than 8 quid a sq meter for cold pressure lams tho we only pay 2 quid
If you print , lam and cut small decals then really whack it up , charge at least 15+ quid per sq meter and even that is cheap.
for example 15 quid per sq meter translates to only 11 pence extra for a 4″ x 3″ decal – thats mickey mouse money considering a cold overlam makes it almost indestructible
We often double up our normal unlammed print price for cold lammed die cut decals – the bigger the decal , the less you can gouge 🙂 BUT , if for example you have a 1.6 m laminator , you can still “gouge” as those are few and far between and the customer will struggle to find someone capable of doing that width. For big contract type stuff , try negotiate a deal with the lam supplier , if we buy more than 500m of lam , we pay almost 40% less (distributor price) and that is a HUGE saving!!!
Ideal pricing is what the market can bear!! We just quoted on laser engraving 2400 bottles of a special Johnnie walker black label and we cam in at 3 quid , had I known the next best price was 30 quid I woulda rethought:)
