  • How do you stretch a Section of Lettering?

Posted by Paul Humble on June 4, 2008 at 9:29 am

I feel quite foolish for asking this as its such a simple thing. But I need to stretch the tails of a ‘p’ and a ‘d’ in CDRX3 and for the life of me cant figure it out.

Ive tried the very simple method of using the rectangle tool but cant get them to line up perfectly.

Convert the letters you need to stretch to curves, select the 2 end nodes of the letter, and pull to desired length
    I just did it here.

    hi Paul

the way I would do it

is to convert the text to curves and then just move
the nodes down with the shape tool

    hope this helps

    i assume it’s the same as cdr12.

select all the text and convert to curves, then using the shape tool you can select the letter, and individual nodes, if you want them to line up the just draw a horizontal line below the text, and drag the lowest nodes (or those which form the base of the letter, down to the line,

    cheers.

Paul…I can’t open the file so I’m not sure I’m understanding you correctly ….but…………..

If you break apart the text……..then convert the letters you need to play with into curves…..you will be able to select the nodes on the tails of the letters you want to change and move them that way

as clear as mud I expect…..I’m hopeless at explaining things 😀

If you are worried about shifting node off line i.e moving left/right as you are dragging down, I use the arrow keys to move selected nodes. I have altered my nudge settings quite low with the standard at 1mm, micro at 1/10 of 1mm and super nudge at 5 x 1mm. You move between selections by using the arrow keys or used in conjunction with shift or alt keys.

As answers above – hold down the the control key as you drag and the nodes will be constrained to only vertical or horizontal movement.

I knew but forgot to add, you can also just see when the lines are straight too as they are not jagged, lol
