how do you get rid of scrap vinyl?
Ok we all have boxes full of offcuts and scrap vinyl, the offcuts go in a few boxes under my worktables and when looking for odd bits for little jobs thats where I look, but after a while you get bits that are folded and creased that won’t go through the cutter, these used to go into the bin then one day i was talking to a friend of my parents who is an assistant-head at a local junior school, he said they were buying bin liners full of scrap vinyl from one of my competitors at 50 quid a piece, now this made my blood boil 👿 , this other signmaker was making money out of rubbish, good on him some will say, 😡 but not me! the schools have little enough money as it is without having to pay for other peoples rubbish!
So I said to this guy next time I have a bin-bag full you can have it for free and then proceeded to give it away to as many schools in the area as possible mostly just to p*ss off the opposition, but it’s kinda backfired in a good way as I seem to be the only fella in the area doing school signs. 😛 -

A great, and generous, idea Steve…nice one!
I’ve given a few bits away to the schools in my time – often the off-cuts of magnetic…they cut ’em into little squares or rectangles with scissors and then decorate them to make fridge-magnets!
everyone should do this…vinyl, magnetic etc. as Steve says the schools are stretched enough, in many villages the schools have gone altogether…a real shame
and we don’t even have any children! 8)

I do the same thing steve, it started when one of the kids came into work with me and used some of the off cuts to make a mossaic, the next time the off cuts bin was overflowing instead of throwing most of it out I asked her school if they wanted it. They were very grateful so I will continue to do this. Haven’t had any work from the school yet though. Perhaps I will in time.

Steve I have the same problem with scrap paper- no one will come and collect it so I now donate useable paper to schools, nurseries etc. – helps keep my concsience cleaner.

yup…i do it as well, gets a bit stupid though when my lad asks for a sheet of perspex..lol

i allways get suspicious when my sister “the teacher” comes to visit me at my shop ….. needless to say she never leaves empty handed 😕
