Norman – open a new page in Corel, import your piece of clipart, then edit/copy it to the clipboard…now Open Signlab, and simple edit/paste it into the page…done!

    more soon

P.S. You could also export in from Corel as an .AI file and then import that into Signlab…

    Norman,

I’m a wee bit lazier then Mike , so I’d rather take advantage of the Program Launcher inside Corel. Fewer buttons to press on the keyboard or a lot less icons to click on.

It’s been a while since I’ve been inside CD v9.x; can you customize accelerator keys within it like you can with v11? If you can, it makes it even that much easier (and faster)!

Bob can you tell me more about this application launcher as I’m interested in it… I’m looking at signlab just now and would like to be able to directly link the corel files to signlab.

Just looked at the application launcher inside corel but there’s nothing about signlab 🙄

Or if anyone else know’s much appreciated!

    Hi Gav
I think its on the CADlink site, free under downloads.
download the .exe and it will put a link to signlab in the application launcher within Coredraw.
You then just select the graphic and click Signlab in the application launcher and it will be exported (or) imported to Signab.
I use corel 11 and the file from Cadlink automatically set it up.
but it was for 11, don’t know if it will work with 9 or not.

BTW, Do you run Signtools 3 with your Coreldraw?

    Cheers

    Gav,

Between Outline’s response here and Peter’s at the other site, are you all sorted? Or still need additional information?

Sorry for not responding sooner but “time” is very limited currently (and foreseeable future). Will check back late tomorrow and respond with additional information if needed (before hitting the road for five days).

As long as you had Corel installed prior to installing Signlab, the Signlab install should put an export filter in to Corel for you.
From Corel select EXPORT then from the available file types you should see “export to Signlab” in the list.
This was the way it worked when I first ran Signlab 3.1 but I don’t have the listing within the file export list at present with V5.
Maybe it was dropped from later versions.

However, there are a number of ways to bring a vector image from CorelDraw to SignLab including:
    – Clipboard Copy and Paste,
    -EPS (Encapsulated Postscript),
-CMF (Corel MetaFile), CMX (Corel Presentation Xchange,(CMX VERSION 6 and newer, Signlab version
    -4.95 rev 3 and newer),
    – DXF,
    – PLT (HPGL Plot file,
    – Corel to Signlab Export Tool (Requires CorelDraw 6 and newer and Signlab 5 and newer). See separate technical note for troubleshooting, if necessary).

NOTE: Bringing a bitmap image from CorelDRAW requires the use of a BMP or TIF export filter.

The later 4.95 revisions, and version 5 and later, of SignLab have supported two special methods to bring objects from CorelDRAW! versions 3,4 or 5 — the Cut and Paste filter and the Export to SignLab (CMF) filter.

The advantages of these filters over others is they bring the ‘raw’ data from Corel without filtering it. This provides a much cleaner transfer that is also much faster.
The 4.95 (a) and newer release of SignLab supports the CMX format from Corel 6 –a common method of transferring images between Corel programs. This method is unique as it preserves text as text. This text can then be edited in SignLab.
The Export to SignLab (CMF) filter is a special export filter that SignLab creates in CorelDRAW! when SignLab is installed. Note: if you installed CorelDRAW! after Signlab, you will not have the filter until you install the SignLab program. Use these filters whenever possible as they eliminate several steps required with other methods and the result is very clean.
The CMF filter will open the SignLab program and automatically import the artwork (see technote # 214 if the “export to Signlab CMF” export filter does not appear in Corel 3,4 or 5).
For smaller jobs, the Copy-and-Paste filter uses the Windows Clipboard to bring items over — it is easier and quicker to Copy-and-Paste between two open programs than to Export.
On larger jobs, Copy-and-Paste is not recommended as it can take longer than the other filters.
Another standardized filter with CorelDRAW! is the Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) filter. This method is guaranteed to work as long as certain rules are followed: No bitmaps in image; Text is Converted to Curves; All vector objects need to have at least a hairline outline, you can also put a thick line on the objects but this will translate as a double line when imported; There should be NO fills on the objects, especially fountain(gradient) fills; Choose the EPS options of No Header and Convert Text to Graphics. Open SignLab and Import the EPS file.
The other options (DXF and PLT) should only be used as a last resort as they tend to make files that flatten curves and contain a lot of nodes. If you cannot get the CMF, CMX, Copy-and-Paste, or EPS filters to work, call technical support.
