  • How do you actually export a jpeg that is not too big?

Posted by Steve Underhill on November 26, 2007 at 9:06 pm

    Hi,
How do you actually export a jpeg so it isn’t either 25 gigabytes in size, or so pixellated you cant see it.
I just want a picture of my new shop sign that I did in corel so I can upload it here but keep getting rubbish quality pics.
    Thanks
    Steve

Is there a ‘resolution’ tab or an ‘advanced’ option in the export?

Do you have a save as a web file option? This reduces the file and keeps the clarity, normally found under the file tab.

I do have those options and saved it as 300 dpi for import into photoshop,
I will try the web file warren,
    back in a min

Nope cant see the web file bit, when i press preview it goes all blocky and wrong colours.

I saved as jpeg, no idea what codestream is.
Its ok though now Ive somehow managed to get it down to 25 meg opened it in photoshop and saved for web.
Ive never had the need to do this in Corel, I use photoshop usually but thought I would kill 2 birds with one stone and design in Corel from scratch, but havent ever had need to export a jpeg from it.

in corel resample it to 400 pixels at 150 dpi, then jpeg it at about 2-3 compression, end up with a very small file good quality

I also think the size is your problem, when I make jpegs of artwork I reduce the size to fit an A4 page (proportionately) This reduces all the fills and elements of the document making it a smaller file (not images though as these are linked at a set size)

If it is just a vector it is possible.

I have save for web in my Illustrator CS3 so no need to open in Photoshop. 😉

I posted it as a gif because it went into photoshop and save for web.
Its corel draw X3 not photopaint Peter.
Im still having trouble, dont want to start over in photoshop as Id like some more opinions on my new sign before bed and that’s what I need to sort out, just seems I cant get the final picture the right size or coour.
Pretty stupid really as theres just about nothing I cant do in photoshop so its a little frustrating.

With the colours, if you set your palette in Corel as the photopaint one it is a bit better, but the colour thing has always been a problem in Corel – what you see on the screen isnt the same when you convert it to a JPEG !

Same with printing from Corel – you can do the artwork in Corel then send it to the printer and the colours are completely different. I get around this by referencing my printed out chart I made of the standard Corel colour palette when making up the artwork. This way it may not look correct on the screen, but will be when it gets printed.
