  • How do I seperate oultines and text for cutting?

Posted by Oliver Holmes on September 4, 2007 at 9:01 am

    Hello,

I have a really dumb question here with regard to outlines and vinyl cutting.

I’ve just started using CorelDraw, and so far am very impressed. I’ve managed to add an outline to my text, however I can’t figure out how to seperate the outline from the text for cutting.

This is the sort of thing I am trying to achieve:

I would be very grateful if someone could explain how to do this to me? Or suggest a better way of creating outlines for cutting?

    Many thanks,

    Oliver.

I don’t use Corel much but I think it would be something to do with the shaping function? It works the same way as welding in Signlab.

Alan Drury is the Corel guru, he’ll probably have a solution for you.

I am only two years into Corel 9, and don’t have Corel on this machine.
But if memory serves, select the entire phrase.
In the drop down "Arrange" menu, choose "Separate".
Then de-select the phrase and select only the outline.
I don’t cut from Corel so I have no idea about that part.
You know not to use red as an outline color on black, right?
    It lacks contrast.

Fantastic advice! It’s so easy when you know how.

Thank you all for your help, it’s very much appreciated. Oh and don’t worry I won’t be using the red outline, it was just a quick image to help explain what I was trying to achieve.

    Thanks again,

    Oliver. 😀

    another tip.

if you have alot of text to do, which will need layering,

    break apart all the contours,

highlight the whole lot of text / images,

left click (holding down), drag and right click, it will make a duplicationof the original, then just delete the image / text on one lot, and the contours on the other,

you’ll then have perfectly spaced contour group, and original text/image group to cut.
