Hi all, can anyone give me any pointers to removing hand painted graphics from a lorry cab. The father in law has just brought a second hand lorry and asked me to sign write it only for me to find that it has been painted. 👿

    You could try cellulose thinners….carefully!
I have done this before without it affecting the original paintwork. Once the signwriting has broken down somewhat from the thinners, even white spirit will clean the rest off sometimes. Depends what paint was used for the writing.

I suppose the safest method would be to use weaker chemicals first, building up until it starts to work.

    Hi Peter
spray on oven cleaner is your only man, leave for a few minutes and wipe away – its safer than cellulose and wont harm the paint underneath
    cheers

Oven cleaner WILL work…but be VERY VERY careful.
It can discolor your background (vehicle) paint.
Only do this inside, out of the sun.
Test in an inconspicuous place first.
Spray some of the cleaner into a safe container and brush onto the lettering, don’t spray the whole thing, and work in sections.

I’d be more inclined to go to one of those pressure-wash car washes and use a spray wand at close range at an angle.
Or maybe try some lacquer thinner, again very carefully and just a bit at a time.

    Love….Jill
