    Hey y’all.

I’ve just taken a still of a mag wheel and tyre for a digi laminated print that good ol’ Shne Drew is going to print up for me.

The finished sign will be 3600mm x 1200mm and the die cut print of the mag wheel will be 999mm x 999mm and positioned LHS of said sign with blurb in cut vinyl to the right.

I have 2 questions that would be great if someone could answer for me.

    1) Normally if I want to make anything in Corel transparent I double click it in Corel to get to Paint. Create new object. Hit the wee wine glass in the middle and click on the part that I want transparent. Anything that that does not take care of I erase transparently and normally all is good. However I’m blowing this sucker up to about a metre in diameter and even though I’ve taken a decent photo (5.1Mb Raw tiff image) I’m still concerned about the raggedy edges of the transparent parts, which brings me to point #2.

    2) Normally if I have an image that I want to crop I find the easiest thing in this kind of situation is to create a circle turn it into an outline and using the effects / fit to shape thingy I get a smooth edge. Groovy for the outside but nae use for the holes in the middle. So create a box, convert to curves and manipulate the nodes till you have a perfect shape for each centre part of the mag wheel. ARE YOU STILL WITH ME?. Not a problem if the customer wanted a white B/G, looks great. But he wants a yellow B/G that a local spray shop is painting. In order for the inside of the mag wheel to look special and neat and lovely, what do I do?

Any suggestions on the back of a cornflake packet, send to John Noakes at Blue Peter OR tell me instead please. 😀

    Thanks,

    Simon.

PS I’d post a photo of the wheel but I don’t know how to do it and still keep the quality up. Sorry. 😳

Simon, do you want to bring it over on monday morning and I’ll sit with you and show you on my corel 10?

Let me know mate, we can do it 1st thing. I’ll go to the office early if that suits.

But, why not take it into paint, cut out what you dont want, then when that is done, take it to a new file with a transparent work area, and there you should have it. To overcome the jagged edges, put a slight feather edge around the image.

    Cheers

Thanks for the speedy reply Shane.

I think I’m almost there with it now, however I’ll just try that feather edge thingy too.

I’ll be in touch. Have a good weekend.

    Thanks.

    Simon.
