  • How do i invert part of a sign

Posted by RayRosher on February 3, 2010 at 3:11 pm

Hi all Ive posted this on the flexisign section but not sure that it’s in the right topic section so sorry for the double post…
Hi guys I need some help
a customer as asked me to make two signs with slanted lettering on the main part of the sign,
however he wants me to make the signs so that the lettering faces left to right upwards for sign 1
    and
left to right downwards for sign 2 if that makes any sense on the main lettering
hopefully you all should be able to see the sign as a jpeg for anyone one looking at the sign the top part with the stars and jungle bounce and the blue star below it are the parts that i need to invert
Can anyone tell me how to do this thanks Ray:)
Actually the sign would not be my choice for a jungle style bouncy but this is what the Guy wants? Sorry almost forgot Running Flexi 8.1 and one day I may actually figure out how to use some of the features of this program lol

Sorry should have added that both signs are facing the same way, one for one side of the bouncy, and one for the other side

Hey! Just noticed what happened to my profile Pic

I cannot help you with Flexi but I did want to point out a few errors:
Try using a different font for the info portion, something more basic.
Your punctuation is weird in the info, and you have an unnecessary apostrophe in "Items"
Also it should be "Management is not responsible for lost or damaged items!"
    Love….Jill

    Don’t know Flexi either sorry.
Maybe it’s my hormones today or sumfink but if a customer supplied that artwork to me I wouldn’t do it…because the signmaker will always be blamed.
As Jill said there is weird stuff going on with the punctuation, what’s with the exclamation marks and the all the full stops? Also the arbitrary capitalisation?
And are glasses and footwear not personal items too? Or does he mean remove other peoples glasses and footwear?

    Ditto Jills comments………

As far as I understand your explanation……

    I would select the stars…

Go to arrange, mirror (making sure keep originals box is checked). You then have a mirror image of the stars.

    Select lettering…

    Copy

Go to Design Central and in the rotation angle box put a minus sign in front of the reading and voila.

Or better still scrap the lot and provide a better design, after getting a deposit. 😕

Ray – ignore these annually retarded signies 😀 if thats what the customer wants take his money and move on.

To answer your question just select the text, double click – notice the sizing handles have changed to arrows in the corners, now grab one of these arrows and manually rotate to suit – easy

I would not let something out of my shop looking like that, in fact I would charge the guy more for having to replicate his visual pollution.
If that makes me "retarded" I will happily be so, even though that term is offensive to me and I think I would rather hear any other bad word than it.

John, although I don’t think I’m retarded, can I point out that if I am retarded then it’s the whole time not just ANNUALLY.

gosh I get back in and everyones had a humour bypass – somebodys tired – yes guys I did spell incorrectly on purpose coz i think calling someone anally retentive is bad (well done for Phil for knowing what I meant) my point IMHO is Ray only wanted to know how to alter the text not a masterclass in layout from the experts 😀

However lovely design as always Jill and no I dont think anyone heres is retarded in that sense.

Jill…. Damn Americans again… "The managment ARE not responsible" or "The manager IS not responsible"
We use flexi if you need further help but I think that this is another of those cases where the customer expects the design to be mirrored on the other end. You have to explain that its not possible or it will be backwards. If you want to rotate it then just do as suggested and turn it to the opposite angle, but this will look even worse than the original.

    Hi All
    I have to admit
I have had more fun with the replies on this thread,
Than with the Twonk that wanted this sign made up,
Anyway quick recap on the sign,
The chap in question, after having a chat with his wife, Spent 5 hours with MS-publisher(shudder) And thought that the sign he made was fantastic,
Just what he wanted Because it was his own work, And perfect in his minds eye. (Glad my eye’s not that bad)
He spent another hour converting it to jpg and 2 hours and 30 sheets of A4 Kodak high quality photo-paper, Printing it out, Not getting it quite right each time.
By this time his Lexmark printer had ran out of ink,
After replacing the ink £39 for 2 cartridges
He still couldn’t figure out why the print quality was so bad,
After all (ahem) it looked great on the screen(looks are very subjective)
Anyway after another Ten sheets of paper,
He decided to look at the printer options and moved the print quality from Draft to what it said on the photpaper box, Best quality archieve photo paper ,
At this point after hitting print, He decided to go and make a coffee
    Guess what!
He printed another Ten pictures at best quality (while he was having coffee) and cost himself another Load of high quality Kodak paper
And about 80% of his new cartridge ink,
So after all this he proudly marches down to, Her-in-doors, And shows off his as yet unmade sign, At which point, She pointed out the spelling mistakes, Crap color’s etc,
At this point, I’m on the floor peeing myself, His wife is in hysterics, As it finally hit home, What a Prat he is,
Of course he never told me any of this,
When he approached me about doing the sign he made a slight comment about someone doing it for him,
My first Question to him, Was did anther sign company do this, As he handed over the photo, at this point i hadn’t actually looked at the picture,
If he had said yes then i was instantly going to knock back the work, (pisses me off no end when people do stuff like that)

Anyway after actually looking at it for about 3 seconds I realized that either his 5 year old had done it or he had done it himself,
In either case I wasn’t going to lose a customer by making a comment like, What A/H did this.
So after going on this forum for advice, and offering the guy 2 other choices and showing him the one Jllbeans did, He was still adamant that he wanted his own done,
At this point I had to remind myself of 2 things
    1. The customer is always Right (even when he’s wrong)
    2. This guy! Was leading to some bigger Job’s, The guys, Brother in law wanted some vans done,
Turns out what the guy was angling for was a couple of free signs, i agreed to this with two proviso’s,
1.He never ever told anyone I did the signs for him. And he provided the foamx, i sent him to someone who i know dosent like to sell foamx over the counter and charges a handling charge, ie hand over the counter an extra £20, The guy commented that he didn’t realize that the materials where so expensive…lol.
2 I actually got the work from his bro in law,

well I am happy to say, I did get the work and he got his signs,
After I did the first van for his in law, I Didn’t want his in law to see the job I did for him. So did one of his vans first.
What springs to mind now is the term,
    Never again

Just been doing a rough calculation and the materials he used to print this off
    at least £50 for Ink
i know the paper he used archive quality £45 box of 50 sheets, If you get the 40% Discount He used a full box?
Coffee £30 this ones for me.
    Printer wear and Tear £25
    His time £5

    makes me shake my head
    or
    Drink more coffee…….
