i have a Athlon 64, 4000+ dual core with 3 screens, its fitted with a 128mb single card and also a ATI 256mb dual monitor card. Combined it can run 3, 19inch flat screens which can run in various configurations. Works well ideal for running variations of the same design etc having two design programs running etc.

i considered it but opted for a 21.3 inch flat screen instead. i really kill my eyes on these things so thought ill go for the big monitor rather than two.
that said, my monitor has ultra thin frame to allow connection of 5 other monitors to create a video wall, which would be cool… but pricey 😕

I tried it a few years ago, with crts.
If you have 2 screens side by side your head will move like you are watching tennis, better to have one larger screen and sit at a confortable distance away, its a bit like buying a 60zillion inch plasma screen and puting it in a 10 x 8 room, waste of time far better to use alt tab for 2 programs

my home setup has 1x 19″, 1x 21″ and TV connected to SLI graphics card (so i am capable of 6 outputs on monitors).

… i hear voices of “why?”

    It does come in handy!

Monitors are cheap these days so u can buy big ones, you have so much flexability.. having a row of monitors makes it easy to flip about with it

I’ve used dual monitors for years. It suits me nicely.

My main weapon is Adobe Illustrator and I keep all the palettes and dialogue boxes on one screen leaving me the second completely uncluttered to use as my working area.

There is actually a third monitor on my desk, but that is connected to a seperate computer on which I leave the internet and email running. I also use it for word processing and spreadsheets.

The three 19″ flat panels together do not take up too much desk space and I am firmly of the opinion that you cannot have enough screen acreage. Even the lady that does my paperwork has a 17″ and a 15″ on her computer.

Thinking of my early days in this job, with just a single 13″ CRT, sends shivers down my spine, not to mention the stars before my eyes, and is probably the reason I need to wear spectacles today.
