    Hi All

Hope you are all rested after the long weekend.

Having a spot of bother with Corel. I need to fill in all the feathers of the phoenix with black in order to engrave from it but am having a spot of bother doing this. Each of the feathers is made up from a number of different lines so I tried to group each section of these lines and then fill with black but it won’t have it – any one got any suggestions.

    Many thanks

    Russ

Hey Russ, from my very limited experience I would say you have a whole heap of line segments in that design rather than a series of closed shapes. You cannnot fill an open shape.
Have a look through Corel help files on Close Shape or Close Path.
What V are you using ?

Could you group all the lines then set a very narrow outline to the whole shape

Don’t know about V11, but in X3 if you select all segments and go Arrange – Close path yo should be able to create a closed shape.
Make a copy of what you have before you do anything, just in case things don’t work the way you hope.
Could you ‘praps post the file for others to play with ?

Make a copy, as Lance wisely suggested.
    Save it elsewhere.
    Then:
    Select all…then group.
    Then Ungroup.
    Then Combine.
    Try that.
I’m only a year into Corel 9 and I still suck at it!
    Love….Jill

shift click the other lines around the bit u want… that will select the items
    then press Ctrl L (Combine)
    Most nodes will be connected

Then modify with shape tool if needed.

    takes some time to master.

Thanks very much all of you for your tips.

Lance couldn’t get the close path thing to work.

Using the "combin" method worked but as you said Dave and Jill needs a bit of mastering – took me ages!!

    Thanks again guys

    Much appreciated
