You need to set the language for the key board Brian

control panel > regional and language > advanced > select a language set to English (United Kingdom)

    Good morning Brian,

Have you tried setting up the keyboard through the control panel? Has your OS been set up to use a UK keyboard? Are your regional settings set to UK?

u need to restart the program you was using or reboot after a keyboard change.

Also, in bottom right corner you may have US or UK next to the time, make sure it says UK or something like that.

    If struggling really badly

    £

Double click on the Pound symbol above, right mouse button and Copy, then go to your design software and into Text edit, then choose Edit / Paste or press Ctrl-V

all keyboards are the same… its windows that changes it

Control panel > Regional and Language Options and change every setting that says United States to United Kingdom

    Brian,

Hold down "ALT" and press 1,5,6 and you get a lovely "£" symbol.

if you’ve never changed any settings you could try "system restore" to a few days before problem started.

When doing the trick i mentioned make sure its on the number pad you type the numbers whilt holding down "alt" after last digit let go of "alt" and a £ symbol shol appear in your text compose box.

    Andy 😎

YIPEEEEE!!!! that worked ….im now the proud owner of £ signs ..i should say im writing this from the laptop in case you wondered where the pound signs came from on this 😀 As i have said im still using 98 for the cutter and signlab 4.95 ..i know iknow it belongs in a museum but it does the job for me .I went into keyboard settings as well as regional …in keyboard settings it was English {united states } that i couldnt change as it was asking for the windows 98 disk. The comp was built just recently for me so i dont have the disk ….Anyway ive got my pound signs and thats all that matters ..thanks my friends speak later

Brian, glad to hear you are sorted, nothing wrong with windows 98 apart from the fact that Microsoft don’t support it any more.
I still run a laptop on windows 98 because Inspire Pro won’t run on anything above 98. Don’t connect to the internet with it though, use a different laptop or desktop machine for that.
