    and alway using option and the arrows for text and individulal letter spacing 😀

    no its not scary 😀 rounded letters ie: OO together space closer, as well as rounded next to straight….as long as you make sure the spacing is exactly the same between the other letters, and the setting on a line the rounder letters are set dropped lower than the line 😀 but im sure someone else will add something ive missed 😀

    equal white space ,helps if you squint a bit. or have some more beers. 😉

    on a serious note…if you have been used to laying out with letraset and signwriting it does train your eye, when using the pc…and the biggest mistake with that is the pc doesnt know how to do it….you have to tell it 😀

    If you imagine that you were filling the gaps up with water..use the same amount of water between each letter
    That way you will see the negative space between the letter

    Actually, Illustrator does a pretty good job with kerning if you set the kerning to Optical in the character window. Another good trick I have used is to look at your type upside down which makes spotting gaps easier http://blog.prepressology.com/typography-tip-1-kerning-upside-down/.
