I’m creating a visual with some architectural letters in Corel Draw X3,
but would like to show an idea of what the text would look like at night
when illuminated in a halo effect ………

how on earth do i do that ?? 😕

I am by far a Corel expert, but what I think might work is to select the text you wish to highlight, and use the drop shadow tool on it.
In Corel 12 you can even choose a pre-set called medium glow. Then, in the color box, select a color similar to what the lighting would be.
    This ought to do something….

Do what Jill said, but select ‘OUTSIDE’ for the shadow and ‘ADD’ for the transparency operation.
