  • how do i fix stainless steele lettering to masonry wall?

    Hi all, first of all….

Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to you all.

    Secondly……..

…..i have some nice stainless steel letters to fix to a masonry wall. I have them at work and will be looking to fix them in the new year, they have come with stud fixings which i am not very familiar with. From what i can gather i drill the masonry and them fill the hole with an adhesive then push the stud fixings into the hole.
Does anyone know what adhesive to use?

If you have a Travis Perkins, builders merchant near you, they sell an adhesive called ‘Gripfil’ which seems to work quite well. I imagine any good merchant will probably stock it or something similar.

    Happy New Year

When fixing metal letters with stud fixings into masonry, we would choose any of the following depending on how permanent a fix we want to achieve, and the risk of accidental glue spillage damaging the masonry finish.

1 – ‘No nails’ type glue for a permanent fix, usually solvent based

2 – clear silicon rubber for a less permanent fix should you have to make minor adjustments later or remove lettering for maintenance

3 – water based caulking sealant where accidental spillage may be easily cleaned off with water

Also consider that which ever glue you use, the fix will be stronger if you can blow out as of much of the dust from the fixing hole as possible – easier said than done

    🙂

    Tip: for clearing holes out
get 2 foot of small bore tubing insert right into the hole & blow, the length allows you to be out of the way of flying debri.

bit sad I know but if you get a chemical fixing kit from screwfix you can get a pump type thing that you can blow the holes out with !!!
I know I need to get out more
