how do i fix a raised aluminium sign to a wall?
Posted by signscript on February 27, 2003 at 10:28 amRight Then, the subject for today is sign fixings…..
…. let me explain… i was asked for 4 x 3mm aluminium squares 600x600mm which have been engraved and a hole in each corner for screwing to the wall, they now want it raised off the wall by about 3/4 of an inch, now ive seen these ali looking fixings about but dont know where to get them from. anyone know ??
and secondly "snap frames" the people i get them from dont do them anymore so anyone know a good supplier…
cheers Kevin

kev! your working too hard mate! 😮
check the home page on locators will do the exact same job…
if you feel the plate is a little heavy just add more locators… if its an engraving ide imagine its low down anyway.i gaurantee it is the way to go if the fixings cant be shown from the front..
the cheapest way anyway… 🙄
if you had soldered on pegs ide imagine the heat may dicolour the plate at the front…check here:

thanks for that rob, however the holes are already drilled as they were going to be screwed to the wall, the ones i was thinking about are a bit like mike brown’s ‘cotton reels’ but ali and come through the sign.

ahhh i see what you mean now mate.. know what you mean i should say.. 😕
i have two sitting on my desk here… ill have to check where we buy them.. maybe post it tonight as ill be going out for the rest of today. i think its “graphex” but could be wrong….
they are not cheap.. about £4 each.. rip-off stuff but look great…anyway i have a solution if they done want to pay the extra and works the exact same.
go to B&Q and buy mrror screws.. not dome head but flat headed cap screws.. they come in gold and silver and look the same as the graphex ones.. a pack of 4 are about £1.50 i think..
anyway, what you do is make a template or line the sign on the wall & mark where the holes are.. then pre-drill a pilot hole 3mm or 5 if its stone and insert your rawl-plugs. now get the female loactors (bucket ones) and turn them upside down and hold beneath the plate.. put your mirror screw through the sign face and screw till its firm.
repeat that each time on each corner. aftrer this check its still level and then tighten the screws.. after that screw on the metal mirror caps ontop of the mirror screws.. stand back and admire… 😉looks the exact same and the customer is none the wiser..
the ones you want are really for floating clear glass.. so the raised section is seen. in this case it is hidden so the upside down locator bucket is hidden…hope this helps.. ill try get the contact for the other metal locators later today…

Hi all
Just a quick note on these mirror screws from B&Q if you want a trase supplier try F.K Moore I bought 400 today for £48+VAT a lot cheaper than B&Q. They supply lots of fixings useful to the sign trade.

Hi Rob
Yeah ive been looking in most days but its been so busy recently that i don’t get much time to post replies. With regards to F.K Moore the are based in Margate or Broadstairs i’m not quite sure but i have a catalogue in work so I will post details over the weekend. They are mainly a glass fixings supplier but they do some really decorative fixings.
Speak soon
Alex
