  • how do i fabricate a 3D facia logo?

Posted by Neil Churchman on May 21, 2008 at 12:09 pm

We have been asked to fabricate a 3D facia logo for a restaurant which is a 2m long french bean cut in half so it has a semi-circular cross section.

Any ideas who can fabricate this sort of signage? 🙂

What type of material are you wanting to use? Aluminum or Acrylic? Illuminated or Non-Illuminated?

what about cutting and sanding it out of HDU sign foam? just sandwich up a few layers and cut it into shape using a band saw or scroll saw… not hard to do… i wouldnt do it if there were multiple of the same logo as getting them all the exact same would be a task in itself.

    Hi Neil,

Usually if we have a truly dimensional logo we order it out. Our two main suppliers for this are Steel Art (http://www.steelartco.com/index_static.html) and Gemini (http://www.signletters.com/index.shtml). I know there were some other people on here having a discussion a few months ago about using LED’s for illumination. You could do some searches for discussions about LED’s. You could also do what Rob said as well. Maybe have some stand-offs with the LED’s for back lighting if you still need them illuminated. I’m not actually very knowledgeable about the construction techniques, as I do the graphic design portion here at the company I work for. Do you have a jpg of the logo you’re going to use? It might help some people on here give you a little bit more exacting advice on what you could do with it. Anyway, I hope you sort it out.

Hi Guys – thanks for your help.

I like Roberts idea of using the foam stuff.
Not used it before so don’t know its properties and where to get it from.
Is it suitable for exterior use and can it be spray painted?

Can’t think of any more questions at this stage but if we get the job
maybe you could point us in the right direction if you’ve used this material before. 🙂
