  • how do i edit/auto trace an image please?

Posted by Kevin Talbot on March 10, 2009 at 7:55 pm

Please can somebody point me in the right direction, we have been given a cartoon type image which we want to print and cut on our Versacamm the problem is that it is made up of all different colours and and some of the image has air swirls in it (hope this makes sense) the problem is when we try to edit/auto trace it picks up everything and effectively cuts it into lots of pieces can somebody please help. Thank Kevin

you dont mention the software you are using,
but I think you need to group all the image together then make a contour cut in the colour that is the cut line CutPath is a common name for the contour in some rip’s for instance.

If you post the image so we can have a look see it may help

The file seems to be a Corel Draw format. I don’t use Corel so can’t help with that. If you have the original jpg, tif or bmp file of the cartoon (I presume that’s what you have?) we can help to sort it from there.

file is empty, as Harry and Nicola found,
I dont think its a jpg as it does have cut lines.

Looked at the zip file and there is a tiny .bmp thumbnail file in there of a cartoon helicopter. Upload again?

it is a file of a helicopter with text under it loads ok in corel may be you could export as a JPEG and load again.
I don’t have a printer like yours but on my edge I would have to manually place the cut line around the parts i need to cut, but as I am new to this as well I could be totally wrong, as my wife would tell you it wouldn’t be the first time.
    cheers Mike

I’ve just downloaded file and opened it ok in X4, I then selected the helicopter and used the boundary tool which produced a cut line around the perimeter.
    I was using X4 with SP2

It is an X4 file (Build 567 – latest version is 701) so will give a blank page in X3

Thanks so much to everybody who helped, I now know how to do this just so anybody out there wants to know I did as Alan said by using the boundary tool I haven’t print and cut yet but will let you know the outcome.
    Thanks again – Kevin
