• How do I do this?

Posted by Marcella Ross on February 10, 2009 at 12:01 pm

I’ve been sent a pdf file of a logo that requires ‘clipping’ the sign has to be routered to the shape of the logo. Now I know how to clip in signlab but I can’t get the file into signlab without errors. Can anyone tell me if I can clip it in Corel as it’s importing in there perfectly?
I’ve tried resaving it as an ai and an eps and importing into signlab but it’s opening up blank 😕

Not having Signlab I am unsure what you mean ‘clipping’ but am guessing that you just want the logo from the pdf. If so try powerclipping it, also have you tried saving in an earlier version of ai or eps?

removing the white background and making it a specific shape. 😀 What you do with a jpeg or a photograph.
Tried exporting them as earlier versions but had no luck so far. 🙁

Have you tried the cutout lab in Corel X3? I can have a go for you if you wish. 1 Hour I beer token! 😀

Depending on the image I either trace an outline then powerclip into it (which then allows you to contour or shadow it) or you could try bitmap tab then bitmap colour mask and adjust the settings to see what results you can get.

    Hope that this helps.

    Thanks

I would say you need to create a Path from a Mask in Photopaint.

This can be a quick way of making a path in Corel X3 or X4 goto powertrace and slide the detail slider to the left until the overall shape starts getting corrupted or major bits go missing the resultant trace will be very simple but maybe made up of a couple of objects, weld those together to make 1 object. The bitmap can be powerclipped into this object or it can be used as a contour cut path.
SL users use Contour Cut under the cut tab.

I used to have similar problems transferring eps or ai files from corel into flexisign. They appeared to open up blank.

However I then found they were always imported into flexisign with a mask.
So after importing i could click on the unmask feature, ungroup and delete the mask and be left with an editable vector.

Could this be possibly the same with sign lab? worth a try.

I often import PDF into CorelDraw and then re-save as AI files. I found they were coming up blank but when I ensured everything was selected on screen and resized the page to fit, save as AI v3 file or PDF they appeared fine in our sign software.

    Cheers,
    Justin 🙂
