  • how do i cut an imported logo in corel please?

Posted by Andrew Woolliscroft on August 21, 2007 at 3:30 pm

I hoping someone out there can help me, i have searched through the rest of the forum but to no avail.
I am trying to import a logo in Corel 12 to cut the image, but i am unable to change the fill color or the edge color, i have tried importing in different formats (such as .jpg .psd)
I have had no problems with previous jpg logos, though i am unsure what the problem is with this.
    Many thanks

    Andrew

    Hello Andrew.

    you cant cut jpegs,
    only rastor files
you will need to vectorise it

    Its that simple!
How do you go about vectorising a jpg? I presume you can use corel trace, i am currently trying to use that, and am getting somewhere slowly!

we use corel trace with great success. If not we end up redraw the files. Currently using Corel Trace 13 or Adobe Illustrator CS2

I am now using Corel trace and am getting some success. Although when i trace the image and then import into Corel draw am i not getting a clean edge, what is this down to? Is it directly related to the quality of the orginal jpg?

the quality of the original document will play a big factor. Also check the setting when you trace. You can adjust how smooth you want the nodes and edges to be

you want a very hi res image, click on bitmaps > mode > black and white (1bit) and play with the settings there. then export to corel trace.

however, that will only really give good results when tracing something of very high res (ie forget googles images 99% of the time), and in my opinion, only really works well on things that don’t include square lines etc in the first place. something like on here is acheivable https://www.uksignboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=28206 but to try and ‘trace’ a logo will not give great results, imho.

a logo should really be redrawn, not traced, on your left tool bar you can use the pencil looking tool to draw lines around things, etc. it’s not an overnight process !!

There’s a good site for free Corel Draw video tutorials, one of them covers how to trace fonts and images to vector. Could be worth checking out. http://www.advancedartist.com/tutorials.html
