  • how do i apply dibond to curved railings?

    Hi all,

We have been asked by a local estate to make some nice signs to be fitted onto their railings. The main problem is the railings go round a bend. Other wise it would be a simple rynobond and a panatrim frame job.

I need some panels that can flex but they also need to be good quality (foam PVC won’t do here).

What I was planning on doing was to make the sign flat out of rynobond/dibond or 3mm steel and then on site use a screw and bolt to slowly bend the sign around the curve in the railings.

If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them.

    Regards

I seem to remember SMP making a panatrim type of frame that was designed to be used for this type of situation. I dont have a copy of Sign update as I am away from home at moment but someone will know thier address???

They do a frame which you can use for bending round a shape like an oval, foring a beaded edge to a panel.

This wouldn’t do what you need though.

If the curve on the railings is uniform then you could use 3mm ally panels from ashby with VERTICAL fixing rails which would then allow clips to be attached to the railings.
You would start in the middle then work outwards, pulling the panel in to the railings. It would form its own curve.

How tight is the radius….If its not to tight…alucabond…will form with vertical straps do it losely to start and tighten away….
If its a tight curve and your worried about paint finish ‘crazing’ have it rolled to approx radius & then fit as above…

    Hope this helps…

HI All, Thank you for all the responses! The radius is not that great to be honest and I will probably do what you suggested peter. Thanks for all the great advise though! I will try to send you all pics of the finished articals.

    Regards

I would probably have a wee test run before I did the real job just to make sure, my concern would be that depending on the diameter and spacing of the railings you could end up with a series of flats rather than a curve.
