how can I get just the outer line of the stroke?

Hi,

Use the direct selection tool (the white arrow) to highlight the additional lines you dont want. Ctrl + Y will get you in and out of outline mode quickly to check. (think you can also click on a node in outline mode with the direct selection tool, delete once to delete the node, press delete again and it will get rid of remainder of line).

It sounds like you are doing it right – outlining the strokes.

After that, like Marts said only – put a little more simply – select the paths you DON’T want, and delete them.

create an offset path save it to a seperate layer and only cut that one.

The easyest way I find to do it is to –

– create you text with outline

– outline font

– outline stroke

– select all and un-group

– in the pathfinder pallet click add to shape area then expand

sorted, dont know if this is easy for you but saves selecting individual letters
