and what’s wrong with fishing line eh?! 😉

Actually, Gray – one way I havefixed fishing line before to good effect is…

Drill two small holes down into the top of the foamex (from above down into the very edge of the sheet). Push the end of the fishing line down into the hole, fill with two-pack adhesive, take a used match stick (or similar) and tap it into the hole with a pin-hammer…nice and snug!…let it set off and then trim the match and any excess glue flush with the top of the sign.

The trick, obviously, is to make sure the hole is barely large enough to accept the line, glue and match so that it all ends up nice and tight…but too tight and the face of the foam panel will bulge or swell slightly and you may detect it when looking at the sign. Also, you have to match the breaking strain of the line to that of the sign..and then some!…I usually use this only for plaques upto 2′ x 1′ type of thing…

In this way you DO use ‘just’ fishing line but both it and the method of fixing are almost undetectable.

…or maybe you were hooked by a fishing line as a kid and just wont use the stuff! 😛

    no – you nana’… 😉

first off – you’re right – I didn’t think to say I do this on 6mm board and secondly, the hole drilled is only about 15-20mm in depth….

oh – nearly forgot – small point, but, to ensure the sign hangs truly vertical try and make sure the fishing line is to the side of each hole as you peg it NOT the front or back of the hole (that is – NOT towards the front or back face of the sign)…
