home made contravision print with white ink – possible?
After getting another request for contravision that sticks to the inside of the window, I think I might have though of a solution. The process would go as follows:
1. In your preferred graphics package, take your image and using a clipping mask, cut hundreds of small regular holes in it so that it looks kind of perforated. Create a second file of the same dimensions with the holes in the same place and assign white spot colour to flood coat it. Then create a third file, as per the second but colour it black.
2. Print the image in reverse on clear with CMYK.
3. Register and flood coat the image with white. If the white spot colour file is correct, hopefully the holes will more or less line up. This will give you a reverse facing solid image for application to the inside of a window.
4. To create the contravision effect, now overprint the white ink with black ink. Again hopefully all the holes will line up.
5. Finally trim and apply.
Is this possible? Would it work? Any potential issues? I don’t have any experience of white ink – is it opaque enough?
Thanks,
Owen
